Powers of Attorney

A power of attorney is a legal document that appoints one or more decision-makers to act on behalf of a person during his or her lifetime; the power of attorney becomes ineffective upon that person’s death. The power of attorney can grant a designated “agent” or “attorney-in-fact” a wide range of powers to make decisions on behalf of the “principal” - the person signing the power of attorney. Keep in mind that once the principal passes away, the power of attorney becomes invalid. In other words, “the POA dies with the principal.”
